How to Unlock your Vehicle

Modern electronic key fobs provide greater convenience and function compared to manual keys. However, they do require batteries that eventually wear out over time and need to be replaced. If your Volvo keyfob only functions intermittently, your battery might be dying and you will need to replace it soon.

Fortunately, there are easy steps you can follow to replace your Volvo key fob battery on your own. Choose a clean, dry surface to work on. Make  replacement volvo key  of all the tools you'll need. Find the battery's hatch and open it using an open-ended flathead, coin, or any other similar tool. Next, carefully pry the battery out of its socket by lifting it on the side closest to the key-ring loop. Make sure you wear rubber gloves to avoid damaging the contacts or the clips.

Place the new battery into the socket once the old one is removed. Make sure that the positive side is facing upwards and that it is seated in all the clips. Slide the cover toward the key-ring until it is loose and slides off. Then, remove the cover to reveal the hidden key blade. It can be used to unlock your vehicle from the driver's side door in the event that the key fob battery is dead or lost.

How to Start Your Vehicle

The majority of modern vehicles come with key fobs that can perform much more than just unlock or lock the doors. They can also be used for other useful functions like summoning and auto-parking the vehicle. In fact, the brand new Volvo XC60 can even remotely start your engine by using its key fob buttons. But what exactly is it that works?

First, locate a clean work surface where you can lay out all the necessary items for this project. Then, lay the fob down on the work surface with its Volvo logo facing upwards. Utilize a flathead, coin, or similar tool to open the battery hatch. Be careful not to touch the electronic contact surfaces of the fob using your tools, since this could cause the key fob to stop working properly.

When the hatch is opened then slide the battery into its socket, making sure it is seated correctly with the positive (+) side facing up. After the clips are put in place replace the battery cover and reassemble your fob.

Pressing the unlock button one time will disable the alarm and open the driver's door. If you press it again and you will be able to unlock all the doors and tailgate. The unlock button can also be used to roll down the windows during hot days or to let fresh air in before getting behind the wheel. If you'd like more than that, the keyfob can be used to trigger the ERS that will begin the climate control system in your vehicle. It will warm or cool the vehicle to desired temperature levels when the vehicle is parked.

How to change the battery

If your key fob no more locks or unlocks your vehicle, it could be time to replace the battery. The battery can be replaced with a flathead screwdriver, plastic pry bar or other small tools. Find the small slot used to house the backup/emergency metal ignition key. Inject the blade of a screwdriver or prybar tool into this slot, and gently push the rear of the fob. After you have opened the fob, locate and remove the CR 2032 3V battery. Replace the battery, then snap the fob.

Note: Older Volvos use a different battery one called the CR2025. CR2025 batteries have 7 tenths of one millimeter less than CR2032 which means you'll need to be extra careful when replacing your battery.

How to unlock the Hidden Key Blade

Key fobs from Volvo have seen a significant improvement in recent years. The key fobs offer more than just a device to lock and start your car. They can also roll down the windows and give you a boost if needed. You'll first need to learn to use your key fob to fully unlock its potential.

Your key fob is fitted with a transponder that's been programmed specifically for your Volvo. When you insert it into the ignition barrel, an antenna reads its code and compares it with the one stored in your vehicle's start inhibitor module. If the codes don't match, your vehicle will not start. This is a vital security feature that stops your Volvo car from starting if you use the wrong key.

You'll need to bring your lost key to a dealer in order to have it replaced. Your car will also be reprogrammed. This procedure can take as long as 10 days and cost you a significant amount of money. You can save money by programming your own computer. You will find all the information you need in your owner's manual or on the Internet. Remove the logo and nonlogo covers and lay your key fob on a clean surface. Find the gray button on the right side of the fob and push it down. The cover will be opened to reveal the CR2032 3V power source.
